Name: Esther Trinity
Age: 17
Class: Senior
Gender: Female
Date of Birth: July 18th, 1990
Appearance:
Being on the short side has its perks, and Esther has always taken advantage of it. After all, who wouldn't call her cute when she gives them a subtle mental shove and a nice, cheesy smile? Plus, her ragged, hand-me-down clothes adds to the pity factor and she knows it.
(Hidden from view, she has a birthmark of a star to the right of her bellybutton, which is how she got her name, Esther, which means star.)
Personality:
Already exposed to the harsh reality of life, Esther is a bit too jaded for her years. She's quiet and knows how to keep her mouth shut, considering the necessity of that in an orphanage. Having never had to look after anyone but herself, Esther's willing to do almost anything to achieve her goals. Despite that, in the rare moment that she interacts with someone else willingly, she's kind, fair, and generally unbiased in her opinions. Intelligent and stubborn, she moves with a quiet confidence in herself. Knowledge is power, she realizes, and studies hard to be someone in the world.
History:
Nameless and unwanted, as far as everyone was able to tell, Esther was abandoned in front of a local fire station by her parents, who have remained anonymous her entire life. Her only clue about them is one memory when she was a baby where her mother sang a lullaby. Here's the part that Esther remembers:
Sweet, young child,
Don't be so wild,
Momma's by your side,
Together we will glide.
Child of the Star,
You will raise the bar
Of fair, kind power,
So don't ever be sour.
Tomorrow we can't play,
But remember what I always say,
My child so clever,
Momma loves you forever.
Once the Children's Service got custody of her, Esther was placed in Trinity orphanage where she took on her last name, for lack of originality. Despite her agreeable disposition, Esther never got adopted due to her close bond with the head matron, Mrs. Pulmer. That's enough family for me, she concluded, and would direct the thoughts of anyone wanting to adopt her to another needy child.
As soon as Esther was of legal age, she secured a job at the local Starbucks since the government funds would only cover so much of her necessities. On her own as she turns 18, Esther realizes the necessity of money and a roof over her head to ensure her survival in the world that has abandoned her.
Honestly, her life is as uneventful as can be when she's caged in that orphanage. Thus, once she got the letter from the Headmistress to go to Tinito's School for the Gifted as a freshman, she immediately accepted. Sure, she'd miss Mrs. Pulmer, but finally, she was out of this hellhole.
Relations:
As an orphan for almost as long as she can remember, the closest thing to family that she has would be Mrs. Pulmer, the matron of the orphanage, who has been a constant as far as she can recall. Esther wouldn't go so far to call the other kids at the orphanage as part of her “family” because she doesn't know anyone well enough. Most leave as quickly as they come and the ones that don't, leave sooner or later anyway. Esther figured on early enough that there was no reason to bother with friends at the orphanage. Once she entered Tinito's School of the Gifted, however, she was able to get to know a few faces. Still, she wouldn't call anyone a close friend.
Hobbies:
Being a solitary person, Esther involves herself in drawing and has become fairly proficient at it. With nothing to do at the orphanage, often times she becomes so bored that she starts studying, if that can be considered a hobby. When lonely, Esther goes for short walks but otherwise, there's not much else to do if she doesn't want to interact with others so much.
Extracurriculars:
Esther doesn't have much time for extracurriculars, especially since she has to juggle school and work. On the plus side, she doesn't have anyone to waste any time and “hang out” with so she was able to squeeze in time for one thing: Martial Arts Club.
Dorm Number: 315
Power:
For as long as she can remember, Esther has been able to send others wisps of thoughts to influence what they're thinking. As a result, she has a strong mental capacity and a near photographic memory. Her power might not seem like much but it certainly has gotten her out of the limelight and trouble often enough. More than anything else, Esther's power distracts the mind so she can slip as another unknown face.
Drawbacks:
If the person is extremely strong-willed or really set in his or her ways, her mind can't influence someone to that extent and nothing happens no matter how hard she tries. Plus, she can't “mind-control” anyone simply because if the thought of something or doing something doesn't exist the slightest bit, Esther's powerless.
