Name: Ryan Hardy J.
Age 16
Class: Sophomore
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: May 13, 1991
Appearance: Ryan stands a little shorter than most teens his age, at a below average five foot seven. His hair is a dark brown color, and could easily be considered black unless in bright light. It's styled with a small amount of gel, spiked forward and what would be his bangs reach to just above his eyebrows. This rarely happens and is normally hidden underneath a hood, hat, or just left in all of its russled splendor. His eyes are a light brown color which seem dark when compared to his mildly tanned skin. His skin tone leans more towards the a mixture of peach and copper, a blend of the two skin colors of his parents and an obvious sign of genetics at its best. His eyes hide behind a pair of oval-rimmed glasses with a black frame that rarely leave his face.
His clothing is more of a simple dress, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a hooded-sweatshirt of some sort. Generally his sweaters have some odd design that run down the side of the front, or even goes down the back. He also wears the same belt that he's had for a year or two that isn't something that would draw attention, but like his glasses, rarely leaves his person.
As for his body, Ryan is average. Simply average. He's hardly muscular, but is in shape with the acrobatics that he's been doing since he was a young child. Otherwise he's your normal teen.
Personality: Ryan is the type of person who is loud, obnoxious, hardly does any work (unless by choice), and somehow ends up with decent grades. He doesn't exactly care what people say about him or about others, and generally avoids such talk. Though at times his mouth can get him into trouble, having that odd personality quirk where he starts talking, but he doesn't necessarily know what he's spewing out of his mouth. He's quick to apologize despite his regular audacious nature, but will only quiet down when he feels that he's gone too far, or is forced to. This is the dominant part of his personality and those who first meet him, generally hear him before all else.
In contrast to his overbearing talkative self, he enjoys his own little quiet time to himself. This is time spent doing one of his few hobbits or simply just sitting around thinking about the day and how human beings, powers or powerless, are all so different, yet so similar. Anytime he's not talking, he's most likely thinking about how others act, how he acts, and why people do what they do. This is a more introverted version of Ryan, but at any given moment, he'll be able to snap back into the dominant part of his personality as if a switch has gone off.
History: Growing up with a Chinese-American background, Ryan had a pretty lively childhood going to various parties where other little children would play around with and befriend within seconds. This was mainly because they were all family gatherings that would occur nearly monthly since he could remember. It was a good feeling to have people around him, and the liveliness of it all made him feel more comfortable as opposed to the quiet. Though as he would soon learn, the quiet was also good, and not necessarily bad.
Though something that his parents had neglected to tell both Ryan and his older brother was the fact that they indeed have powers. In fact, their whole family had powers ranging back from when they had immigranted from China. Though utterly surprised, both brothers were absolutely ecstatic at the thought of being able to use their own powers one day. They were also excited to go back and tell their friends in their regular schools, but it was also taught to them that powerless people did not know about them. It was obviously sad to them, since at the end of that year, when Ryan was about 10 years old (and still powerless unlike his brother), they had to move where another academy for gifted children could attend without worry of exposing themselves.
From then on, he learned about things that others would learn about, but lacked in his studies as he attempted to perform every power he could think of in a futile attempt to accelerate the coming of his power. Unfortunately, nothing worked. Though one odd day when Ryan was around thirteen or so, he had started to go through the stages that a young adolescent boy would go through, but something was a little odd about it. At the time his voice would crack, any inanimate object he would touch directly afterward would either shrink or grow a tiny bit. He and his family had hardly noticed until the telephone had mysteriously started to shrink over the flu season.
Nothing drastic has happened to him, and nothing relatively traumatic either. The last few years he had at his old academy, before transferring into Tinito's were that of a normal teenager. Though he had a slightly more social life than most, it wasn't something that strung him out of a crowd.
Relations: Father; Aaron | Mother; Erika | Older Brother; Jacob
Hobbies: Exploring new horizons with his powers first and foremost. Video games. Occasional mystery books. Attempting amateur psychology.
Extracurriculars: I'll leave this open for now. I'll see how my character progresses first.
Dorm Number: 210
Powers: Ryan was bestowed the ability to enchant things, or a more modern term, material manipulation. His current talent allows him to enhance physical aspects, such as enlarging a table, notebook, small weaponry. He can also make things smaller, which makes heavy loads less of a struggle. Anything that is 'physically' enhanced, has scaled properties. This means that weight will be scaled down so that a two ton cinder block the size of an elephant will simply be the size of your average cell phone roughly weighing two pounds. Knives that could cut through flesh can be scaled to little pin pricks that might occasional pierce the skin. Ryan has tried dabbling in other parts of physical manipulation, but lacks at it in comparison to 'True Enchantment'. His physical manipulation generally has a fifty-fifty chance of working properly, and only a thirty percent chance if he's under pressure. It's also restricted to inanimate objects.
Supplementary Enhancement, or 'True Enchantment', is the typical type of enchantment you'd find commonly in video games, but only if you've mastered the basics and are very skilled in Enchanting. Ryan isn't. If anything he's a novice who's ability is above average in enchanting maybe two or three things that he's practiced on for countless hours. Otherwise, he's able to sharpen blades, make things glow, amplify the power/volume of things (light, sound of one's voice, etc) though he cannot make people stronger. Though the few enchantments he's actually studied, he's quite proficient at. These skills include 'Remote Puppetry' and 'Absolute Vision', which are simply put, techniques of True Enchanted with names that Ryan thought suited them best. Remote Puppetry is basically Ryan's ability to manipulate objects from a distance that he's already used his power on manipulation on before. As useful as the skill is, he can't manuever anything that he can't see, and can only manipulate things with this if it's within about ten feet. His 'Absolute Vision' refers to his ability to manipulate the lenses of his glasses for free range optical effects. Such effects range from x-ray vision, heat vision, night vision and other things. This ability can only be used a few times a day at most, otherwise the medium will break, and an overlap of the power may be dangerous (probably just twice per thread). The lense effects last only a few minutes (possibly three to four posts) and may revert back faster if needed.
Drawbacks: Explained in the powers, but if needed; Ryan has a lack of talent in physical manipulation, which is one of about four things he is able to do with his powers. Something pretty narrow for a power with so many possibilities. His Supplementary Enchantment has a low variety of things he is able to do, and the things he excels at are still very limited. His Remote Puppetry has a limited range, as well as a prerequisite for what items he's able to manipulate, and his Absolute Vision can only be used a few times a day and has a time limit. Anything that needs to be physically manipulated, obviously needs to be physically touched by Ryan, though not necessarily his skin. His abilities may be useful, but they still have their limits.
